Kalah explores the uneasy relationship between human construction and the natural world in the tropical landscapes of Southeast Asia, where abandoned structures are gradually reclaimed by their surroundings.
Concrete buildings disappear beneath dense vegetation, deserted courtyards and passageways become entangled with vines, and once-functional spaces take on an unfamiliar, almost post-apocalyptic character. Elsewhere, an abandoned aircraft rests within a vast limestone quarry, its presence both extraordinary and strangely incongruous.
These environments suggest a world in which human activity has abruptly ceased, leaving architecture and machinery to surrender to the landscape. The series reflects on the impermanence of the built environment and the quiet persistence of nature, revealing how quickly the familiar can become alien when left undisturbed.
