Desert Modern

  • Desert Modern explores the distinctive mid-century architecture of Palm Springs, where an idealised vision of American suburban life remains preserved beneath the California desert sun.

Low-slung houses, geometric façades, vivid doorways and meticulously maintained gardens sit against the dramatic backdrop of the San Jacinto Mountains. Palm trees cast elongated shadows across empty streets, while vintage automobiles and architectural details evoke the optimism and glamour of another era.

Yet beneath this carefully composed perfection lies an unsettling stillness. Devoid of human presence, the neighbourhoods resemble abandoned film sets — familiar, immaculate and seemingly suspended in time. The series examines the relationship between architectural nostalgia and absence, capturing a vision of American life that feels both enduring and strangely unreal.
